The Malawi Pool Association (MAPA) is set to hold regional finals for the north this weekend at Ngomambi Entertainment Centre in the city of Mzuzu, sponsored by Carlsberg Special Brew.
Participating clubs, who have paid a registration fee of K10, 000.00, will come from Dwangwa, Kasungu, Karonga, NkhataBay and Mzuzu and will showcase their talents in pocketing balls using cue sticks on Saturday and Sunday.
Speaking to Nyasa Times, Regional Tournament Director for the north, Vincent Vitty Banda, said the regional champions will earn themselves a place in the national finals which will be played on 29th October 2016 at Zitherepano Leissure Park in Mangochi. This means that the regional champions will not get any prize money at regional level but will have a chance of winning K650, 000.00, K500, 000.00, K300, 000.00 or K200, 000.00 which are prizes for positions one to four at national level.
For the regional finals, the team that will come second will pocket K70, 000.00 while the third and fourth placed teams will go away with K50, 000.00 and K30, 000.00, respectively.
“All is set and we are looking forward to a very competitive tournament on these two days and we hope the best team will win. We thank Carlsberg Malawi for their involvement in developing the game of pool in this country,” explained Vincent Banda.
Among players from Mzuzu is the 2014 national champion in the ladies category, Dubai Kelvin.
